KEEP THE FLAME BURNING

Keep The Flame Burning is an ambitious exhibition co-produced by a group of volunteers, all aged 16 to 25 and working class. The group worked together between September 2024 and June 2025 to explore the Library’s archive of material from libertarian socialist group Big Flame (1970 – 1985).

Together, they discussed their thoughts and feelings on class, political organising past and present, and the role of archives in these movements. We hope that this exhibition tells some of Big Flame’s story, and illustrates that though the shape of struggles change, our resistance to them must continue – we must keep the flame burning.

The exhibition opens on Friday 18 July and will be followed by a year-round events programme. Join us on Saturday 26 July for a behind-the-scenes look at Big Flame material with the project group themselves at the Keep the Flame Burning Scanathon.

This project and exhibition has been made possible by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
