Equality and Diversity Statement
The Working Class Movement Library is committed to the elimination of any form of unfair discrimination and to the establishment of equality of opportunity, and to the development of policies, procedures, and practices to ensure these objectives. Equality of opportunity means eliminating all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination and promoting a culture which actively values difference and the fair and equal treatment of all. This means that employment opportunities and service provision are free from irrelevant barriers and accessible to all, and where barriers exist reasonable steps will be taken to remove these. The WCML acknowledges its legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010 not to unlawfully discriminate because of the protected characteristics identified therein: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, nationality and ethnic or national origin), religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation.
In a wider context, beyond legislative requirements, the WCML is committed to encouraging and promoting diversity and a culture where everyone is treated with courtesy and respect.
Our objective is to eliminate discrimination and promote diversity in both the WCML’s employment practices and in its dealings with service users, third parties and the public. Our Equality and Diversity policy applies to all those who work in and use the WCML including Employees, Board members, Volunteers, Job applicants, Visitors and users of the library including participants in programmes, Stakeholders, Contractors, and Partners.
Our Equality and Diversity Policy aims to treat everyone fairly and with dignity and respect. To ensure each service user has access to high quality services. To create fair and just employment practices and to integrate equality into decision making and planning. The Board of Trustees have overall responsibility for our policy, including providing leadership and direction to ensure that the policy is operated effectively.
